HIFU Ultrasound Therapy
What is HIFU ultrasound therapy?
Ultherapy is the only non-invasive treatment approved by the FDA for lifting the skin on the neck, chin, and brow, and improving lines and wrinkles on the décolletage. Ultherapy uses microfocused ultrasound to lift and tighten loose skin over time.
During HIFU ultrasound therapy, small waves of focused ultrasound energy penetrate the same skin layer usually addressed in a surgical facelift. Using ultrasound technology, HIFU ultrasound therapy works from the inside to lift and tighten skin non-invasively. Your body’s natural reaction to ultrasound therapy is to repair tired skin by stimulating the growth of additional new collagen.
In general, ultrasound therapy doesn’t cause pain. Because this treatment uses ultrasound energy to trigger skin tightening, patients will feel a heating sensation and tingling below the dermis, ultrasound therapy discomfort level varies from patient to patient.
Areas of Treatment
As a natural protein, collagen works to give skin its youthfulness by keeping it firm and toned. As we age, collagen breaks down and the result is a loss of skin strength and elasticity. That’s where HIFU steps in and lifts up, through ultrasound therapy. Ultherapy helps to tighten skin, remove fat and improve contour. This treatment can be applied to the jowls, around the eyes, neck, and abdomen (for etching contours).
Length of Treatment
The length of the treatment depends upon the area being treated and your individual treatment plan. A face and neck treatment takes about 60-90 minutes while a chest treatment only takes about 30 minutes.
The Expected Results
You may notice a short-term improvement right away however, the natural course of generating new collagen continues over 2-3 months, with expected improvement for up to 6 months.
Results from HIFU ultrasound therapy typically last for a minimum of two years. A vast majority of patients only need one treatment. However, Multiple treatments help produce the best results. To maintain results, it is highly recommended to do follow-up ultrasound therapy treatments yearly.
The Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate for HIFU ultrasound therapy are people who want an alternative for dermatological filler or facelift surgery. Patients' ages typically range between the ages of 30-65.
