PRP Injections
Hair loss can have a profound impact on your self-confidence. Men and women alike struggle with varying degrees of alopecia, but Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) therapy offers a non-surgical way to reduce and reverse hair loss. PRP treatment is a three-step process that uses the platelet-rich plasma found in your blood to promote natural hair growth in the scalp. PRP therapy has been used for decades for its healing abilities on muscle, tendon, and ligament injuries, and its cosmetic uses offer high satisfaction for patients with alopecia.
Pure Harmony Medical Spa at Jacksonville Beach now offers Blood Facial with PRP filler, a safe and non-surgical cosmetic procedure that rejuvenates aging skin by restoring skin tone, texture and volume.
Growth factors from your blood platelets are injected into the superficial layers of your skin to provide a PRP facial. This stimulates your skin’s collagen levels which repair skin damage and restore a natural glow.
What Is Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) Therapy?
PRP therapy has been used for decades for wound and soft tissue healing by orthopedic surgeons and wound care physicians. PRP has become increasingly popular after several high-profile celebrities have talked publicly about the benefits they have had from the treatment. There has been a large amount of research and clinical evidence demonstrating PRP’s regenerative properties for the treatment of scars, fine wrinkles, volume loss, hair loss, and skin rejuvenation. Platelet rich plasma (PRP) utilizes your own blood and prepared by concentrating your blood plasma with platelets, regenerative growth factors used to stimulate skin healing, collagen production and other important proteins that support the skin.
What Are Platelets?
Platelets are a crucial part of the body’s ability to stop bleeding and to repair damaged blood vessels and cells in the body. A good way to think of them is as “little powerhouses”, which release proteins (called growth factors) when they become activated by contact with the body’s tissue. This activation promotes tissue repair and collagen production.
What Is The Process Like?
Ideally come to your appointment without make-up and drink plenty of water. Initially we will apply a local anesthetic cream over the face and any other treatment areas. Your blood is drawn, spun down on a machine called a centrifuge to concentrate and isolate platelets and other healing factors. The platelet-rich solution is then applied to the skin via injection and/or micro-needling. The entire process takes about 1 hour
How Many Prp Treatments Will I Need?
Treatment protocols vary from patient to patient. We generally advise that patients over the age of 40 will need a course of 3 treatments spaced 4 to 6 weeks apart. Younger patients may only need 1, & some patients may require more depending on their indications.
Who Should Avoid PRP Therapy?
Because PRP Therapy involves using your own blood, there is little to no negative side effects.
You should avoid PRP Therapy if you have:
Low platelet count in blood
Local infection at procedure site
Bloodstream infection
Active cancer
Pregnant or breast-feeding mothers
Avoid Anti-Inflammatory (NSAIDs) medication 7 days prior to procedure
Are The Results Of PRP Therapy Permanent?
They are long-lived but not permanent. We advise patients to have a maintenance treatment 6-12 months after their last treatment.
Can PRP Therapy Be Used Together With Other Treatments?
Because the treatment involves only injection of your own blood with nothing added to it, it is very safe. Side effects, if they occur at all, are usually mild to moderate. Immediately after treatment, most patients look a little puffy, particularly around the eyes. This is because the product is sitting within the skin and will settle over the next few hours. In some cases there can be mild swelling persisting for a few days after treatment. Many patients also complain of mild itchiness for the first 24-48 hours after treatment. Bruising is reasonably common around the eyes. This is because the under-eye area is very rich in small blood vessels and it is virtually impossible to avoid them.
What Is Post-Care Like?
Try to avoid touching your face for the rest of the day and avoid cleansing or moisturizing your skin until the morning after treatment. Avoid applying make-up until the morning after your treatment. Avoid Anti-Inflammatory (NSAIDs) Medication 7 days post treatment.
